The team of The Rookie has said sorry for the abrupt cliffhanger ending to Season 8. Fans had been left hanging after the final scene dropped out. Creator Alexi Hawley revealed at a fan event that Season 9's opening will be extended above the usual length. Nathan Fillion announced that filming for Season Nine starts on a date in early August. Meanwhile, a first look of a upcoming scene kicking off the new season was put on the internet ahead of the new season.
