The question of whether Prince Harry continues to receive funds from the royal family has been raised numerous times in recent years. After stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, relocated to the United States and have lived there since.
So, does Prince Harry still get money from the monarchy? According to the official Sussex website, they no longer receive any money from the Sovereign Grant. The Sovereign Grant is the government-funded payment to the monarch to support official royal duties.
When they announced their decision to step back from royal work in 2020, the Sussex website explained their new financial arrangement:
“In 2020, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made the choice to transition into a new working model. As they step back as senior members of the Royal Family and no longer receive funding through the Sovereign Grant, they will become members of the Royal Family with financial independence which is something they look forward to.”
They emphasized their pride in charitable work while also highlighting their intent to earn professional income independently, something they were previously restricted from doing:
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex take great pride in their work and are committed to continuing their charitable endeavours as well as establishing new ones. In addition, they value the ability to earn a professional income, which in the current structure, they are prohibited from doing.”
Since 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle no longer receive public funding from the royal family and aim to maintain financial independence through their charitable and professional activities.
Author's note: Prince Harry ceased receiving official royal funding in 2020 and now supports his work through independent means while focusing on charity and professional ventures.
