Fiorentina have dismissed head coach Stefano Pioli following one of their poorest openings to a Serie A season. The decision was announced on Monday as the team continues its struggle at the bottom of the league table.
After going ten matches without a victory, Fiorentina accumulated only four points, drawing four and losing six. This marks the third time in their history they have lost six of their first ten Serie A fixtures — the previous occasions being in 1939/40 and 2001/02.
The club also endured four defeats in their first five home games, a pattern not seen since the 1977/78 campaign.
Pioli, who signed a three-year deal last summer for his second spell with the Viola, was relieved of his duties on Monday. Under-20 coach Daniele Galloppa has been named interim manager.
“Fiorentina confirm that head coach Stefano Pioli has been relieved of his duties.”
Pioli, who previously managed Bologna, Chievo, Inter, Lazio, Milan, and Parma, faces his first spell in Serie A without a single league victory while in charge of a club.
Galloppa will lead the team in Thursday’s UEFA Conference League match against Mainz 05. Despite their league troubles, Fiorentina currently top their Conference League group after two matches.
Fiorentina ended Stefano Pioli’s tenure after a winless 10-game start, appointing Daniele Galloppa as interim coach to revive the team’s domestic form.
