Jasmine Crockett Hit With Ethics Complaint Over Failure To Disclose Stock Holdings

Jasmine Crockett Faces Ethics Complaint Over Undisclosed Stock Holdings

Representative Jasmine Crockett (D., Texas) is reportedly facing legal challenges for allegedly concealing ownership of stock in at least 25 companies on her congressional financial disclosures, according to a complaint obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

Stock Ownership Discrepancies

As a Texas state legislator, Crockett disclosed owning stocks in 28 companies during 2021, spanning sectors such as pharmaceuticals, fossil fuels, technology, automobiles, and marijuana. However, in her congressional filings for the same year, she omitted 25 of those holdings.

The unreported companies included several that could directly benefit from legislation Crockett introduced in Congress.

Ethics Investigation

The complaint was filed by the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), a nonpartisan watchdog, with the Office of Congressional Conduct. FACT believes Crockett’s incomplete disclosures may violate the Ethics in Government Act, which can lead to prison time for knowingly submitting false financial information.

"When Members of Congress fail to accurately and fully disclose their financial interests, it undermines the integrity of our government and erodes the public’s trust," said FACT executive director Kendra Arnold.

Author’s summary: Jasmine Crockett is under scrutiny for allegedly hiding a substantial stock portfolio in her congressional disclosures, raising concerns about adherence to government ethics laws and transparency.
