Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex and a British Army veteran, shared an emotional essay ahead of Remembrance Day, exploring the meaning of British identity and the enduring spirit of remembrance. His piece, titled “The Bond, The Banter, The Bravery: What it means to be British – By Prince Harry,” was released as he began a visit to Canada for Remembrance Day events.
In the essay, the Duke reflected on the solemn importance of honoring those who served and the values that define the British character. He expressed deep pride in supporting military charities and the continued work that connects service members past and present.
“Every November, the world, for a moment, grows quieter. We pause, together, to remember. Remembrance has never been about glorifying war. It’s about recognizing its cost: the lives changed forever and the lessons paid for, through unimaginable sacrifice. It’s also about honoring those who, knowing that cost, still choose to serve.”
Prince Harry noted that although he now resides in the United States, his connection to Britain remains strong. He emphasized that the country he once served will always hold a central place in his heart.
“Though currently I may live in the U.S., Britain always will be the country I served for.”
Prince Harry’s essay intertwines remembrance, service, and patriotism, underscoring his lasting pride in British values and the shared spirit of sacrifice that unites nations.
