Dan Trachtenberg, director of the Predator franchise, shared his vision for a follow-up to Kevin Costner's 1995 sci-fi film Waterworld. After successfully reviving the Predator series, Trachtenberg expressed interest in revamping Waterworld through a new medium.
Speaking on the red carpet at the Predator: Badlands premiere, Trachtenberg revealed his preference for a video game continuation rather than a movie sequel.
“The thing about Waterworld that I want to see is a video game. I want to see an open-world third-person action-adventure video game that is not a remake of the movie, but is a sequel to the movie. That's what I want to see.”
Trachtenberg’s idea follows a tradition of video games serving as official sequels to popular films. One notable example is Ghostbusters: The Video Game (2009), set two years after Ghostbusters II and featuring a new character trained by the Ghostbusters team as they address paranormal events in New York City.
Author’s summary: Dan Trachtenberg proposes an innovative Waterworld sequel as an open-world action video game, continuing the story from the original film rather than remaking it.
