Police arrested a 32-year-old intoxicated man from North Olmsted on November 2 after he passed out while driving a pickup truck at the intersection of Nobottom and Barrett roads in Berea, Ohio.
Another driver reported to police that the truck remained stationary as the traffic light at Nobottom and Barrett alternated between green and red multiple times. She was stuck behind the vehicle.
After passing the truck, she saw the man asleep behind the wheel and attempted to wake him without success. She observed that the truck was in drive and the driver’s foot was on the brake.
A 2-year-old boy was secured in a child seat in the back of the truck during the incident.
When police arrived, the man was still unconscious and did not respond to commands to wake up. Even after police rubbed his sternum, he remained unresponsive.
Paramedics took the man to Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights for evaluation and treatment.
“The woman noticed that the truck was in drive and that the man’s foot was on the brake.”
Police safely removed the child from the vehicle and contacted his mother, who then came to pick him up. An open bottle of vodka was found inside the truck.
The man was arrested for intoxicated driving with a child passenger, posing serious safety risks on the road.
