As the man collapsed, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, supported his head while he was lowered to the floor. The cause of the collapse was not immediately clear.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt later addressed the incident, stating the man was a guest from one of the attending healthcare companies, Eli Lilly or Novo Nordisk. She said:
“During the Most Favored Nations Oval Office Announcement, a representative with one of the companies fainted. The White House Medical Unit quickly jumped into action, and the gentleman is okay. The Press Conference will resume shortly.”
President Trump resumed the event about an hour later but the man did not return. Trump commented that the man was feeling lightheaded but has recovered.
At the event, President Trump announced a deal with Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk to expand Medicare coverage and lower prices for the obesity medications Zepbound and Wegovy.
