Avengers: Doomsday carries immense expectations. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) remains a major force globally, it no longer dominates as before. For example, The Fantastic Four: First Steps earned just over $500 million—respectable but modest by Marvel’s high standards.
The upcoming fourth Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland is expected to perform well. Then, attention turns to the MCU’s highly anticipated crossover event, Avengers: Doomsday, which already faced challenges. The studio had to replace Jonathan Majors as the lead villain, switch directors, incorporate several Fox-era X-Men characters, and bring back Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom—likely a costly move.
Additionally, Kevin Feige has hinted that the next two Avengers movies will conclude this phase of the MCU with a sort of reboot afterward. This underscores the significance of Doomsday as a farewell to the current era.
Adding to this pressure, Simu Liu recently shared thoughts on the film during an interview with ScreenRant. He highlighted the emotional depth of the project:
“I mean, there are just so many actors in it, and getting to work with those people as peers is really incredible because I grew up watching so many of them. It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies. And I think there’s something really fun about that.”### Author’s summary
Simu Liu emphasizes Avengers: Doomsday as both a star-studded celebration and a heartfelt tribute, heightening the film’s stakes as the MCU transitions to a new era.
