On 6 November 2025, the Netherlands Minister of Economic Affairs, Vincent Karremans, activated the Goods Availability Act (Wbg) to secure the steady production and distribution of critical semiconductor chips made by Dutch company Nexperia.
"The Netherlands trusts that the supply of chips from China will reach Nexperia’s customers over the coming days,"
said Minister Vincent Karremans, emphasizing the progress made in negotiations with Chinese authorities.
This action follows a trade agreement between China and the U.S., which allows Nexperia’s Chinese facilities to restart exports. The decision is expected to restore the global supply of older-generation chips crucial to many industries.
The Goods Availability Act ensures continued access to essential goods during emergencies. By invoking it, the Dutch government aims to prevent any disruptions that could leave Nexperia’s finished or semi-finished products unavailable. The Act was last used on 12 October 2025.
