Maple Leafs forward David Kampf has stepped away from the Toronto Marlies as he contemplates his future with the organization, according to multiple reports.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that Kampf is frustrated about not being called up to the NHL team. This situation has led him to take some time away from the club, potentially resulting in a contract termination.
“I don’t know exactly what was said…but Kampf did leave players with the Marlies [Leafs’ AHL affiliate] with the impression that he was going to terminate his contract.”
Friedman first mentioned this during the Saturday Headlines and followed up on the Monday episode of 32 Thoughts the Podcast.
“The Toronto Marlies are playing tonight in Chicago in the American Hockey League, and he’s not with them. I was told there’s a possibility he could play tomorrow, but I think that’s unlikely.”
He added that Kampf took a few days off to reevaluate his future, noting the roster and salary cap challenges currently faced by the Maple Leafs.
These factors contribute to the uncertainty surrounding Kampf’s future with the organization.
