The federal government has submitted a petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) requesting approval for the Roshan Economy Power Package. This three-year initiative offers discounted electricity rates to industrial and agricultural consumers who increase their power usage compared to the previous year.
Nepra will conduct a public hearing on November 11 to evaluate the government's proposal.
“Industrial power demand has fallen 14 percent and agricultural usage by 47 percent over the past three years due to sluggish economic activity, structural adjustments, and increased reliance on net-metering systems, which now total 6,035 megawatts.”
The package aims to reduce the financial burden caused by idle generation capacity on the national grid and support economic activities.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the package on October 23, emphasizing its role in lowering electricity costs for key sectors.
