Deadline attended the taping of Wicked: One Wonderful Night and shares what was left out of NBC's broadcast special.
Before the premiere of Wicked: For Good, NBC took viewers on a magical journey to the Emerald City with its broadcast special. The event included performances by Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and the Wicked cast, featuring unique arrangements of iconic songs—from “No One Mourns The Wicked” and “I’m Not That Girl” to “For Good.”
Audience members also enjoyed exclusive interviews and previews of two new songs from Wicked: For Good: “The Girl In The Bubble” and “No Place Like Home.” A standout moment was a duet between Grande and Erivo performing “Get Happy/Happy Days Are Here Again,” a classic previously done by Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland.
The special was recorded at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on September 24, except for one unique performance discussed later. Deadline's presence allowed a look at behind-the-scenes moments that were ultimately not included in the broadcast.
"Deadline was in the audience, so we’ve compiled a few of the best behind-the-scenes moments from the taping that didn’t make it to air."
The NBC special provided unique performances and exclusive previews, but several captivating moments from the live taping were omitted from the final broadcast.
