Christian Wood, former Lakers big man, fired shots at intruders who tried to break into his Sherman Oaks home on Wednesday, forcing them to flee.
The NBA veteran, who played for the Lakers during the 2023-24 season, was home when three individuals broke in through the back door around 1 p.m., according to KTLA.
Los Angeles police reported Wood fired three rounds into the ground to scare off the intruders. No injuries were reported, and the suspects appear to have taken nothing.
"Wood fired three rounds of ammunition into the ground to scare off the intruders before they fled."
The suspects remained at large and were last seen escaping in a gray Jeep Cherokee.
Wood is one of several athletes recently targeted by home break-ins. High-profile victims include NFL stars Travis Kelce, Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, and NBA player Luka Doncic.
Authorities recently arrested suspects linked to a break-in at New Orleans Saints star Cam Jordan's home. In August, NFL legend Andre Johnson was also robbed, losing valuables including his Hall of Fame ring.
Christian Wood’s quick action prevented theft and injury during a break-in, highlighting a disturbing trend of athletes’ homes being targeted by burglars nationwide.
