The Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) is commemorating 130 years of operation of the historic Incline Railway and inviting residents to take part in the festivities. The celebration will take place on Sunday, November 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the lower station of the Incline Railway on St. Elmo Avenue.
The event will pay tribute to generations of passengers, employees, and supporters who have kept the Incline Railway alive as part of Chattanooga’s identity.
“The Incline Railway has carried millions of visitors up Lookout Mountain for 130 years, offering not only breathtaking views but also a living connection to Chattanooga’s rich transportation history.”
“As the steepest and longest funicular in North America, the Incline is a true engineering marvel. Beyond its history, it continues to drive tourism and support the local economy by attracting visitors who dine, shop, and stay in our community. We’re proud to celebrate this milestone with the city that has supported it every step of the way.” – Charles Frazier, CEO of CARTA
In recognition of this anniversary, Incline Railway tickets will cost $1.30 per person for the entire day.
CARTA marks 130 years of the Incline Railway with a family celebration, community tributes, and a symbolic $1.30 ticket price for visitors.
