I want to begin by expressing my regret over Senator Dolega's remarks, which included offensive imputations against coalition senators and members. According to Labor, it now seems to be an offence to drape oneself in the Australian flag and show pride in it.
I’ll take that interjection, Senator Dolega. That is exactly what you said. You criticised some of us on this side of politics for having the temerity to drape the Australian flag around us, to be proud of our country.
How dare you suggest that this is dog whistling! Through you, Chair, how dare Senator Dolega imply it is dog whistling to be proud of our country and our flag.
Many people want to come and live in our country because it is great and has one of the most successful migration histories globally. We are a proud migrant nation and a vibrant multicultural society, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, those who arrived decades ago, and recent immigrants.
We are a hugely successful multicultural country.
