CANTONMENT, Fla. — A tragic collision on Highway 29 in Escambia County claimed the life of an unborn child late Sunday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
FHP reported that a 21-year-old pregnant woman from Cantonment was driving south on Highway 29 when her vehicle veered into the northbound lane and was struck by another car. The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles.
The young woman was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Despite medical efforts, her unborn child did not survive. Authorities stated that the other driver, a 40-year-old woman from Molino, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Investigators are still determining what caused the vehicle to cross into the opposite lane. FHP has not yet filed any charges, and the investigation remains active.
