Family members report that a 19-year-old woman, who was eight months pregnant, and her unborn son were killed when a suspected drunk driver struck the car she was traveling in. The crash happened shortly after Thanksgiving celebrations, as the young woman and her mother were returning home after dropping off a neighbor.
Relatives described the victim as a joyful and caring person who was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her baby boy. They said both mother and grandmother were driving responsibly when the other vehicle crossed into their lane.
“She was so excited to become a mom. We were all ready to meet the baby,” said a family member at the memorial site.
The driver believed to have caused the crash was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. Authorities are still investigating the incident.
Mourners have left flowers, candles, and balloons at the crash site to honor the victims. Friends and neighbors have also organized a fundraiser to help the grieving family cover funeral expenses and support recovery for the surviving mother.
“This tragedy took away two lives that had just begun,” a neighbor said during the vigil.
