Taiwan Commemorates Feminist Pioneer Peng Wan-ru
On Sunday, Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) honored the legacy of Peng Wan-ru (彭婉如), a feminist pioneer whose work significantly advanced gender equality reforms in Taiwan. Peng's murder remains an unsolved case 29 years later.
"Peng Wan-ru’s dedication to gender equality continues to inspire us in our ongoing efforts," the DPP stated in a remembrance message.
Peng was a prominent advocate for women's rights and made substantial contributions toward legislative and social changes that improved women's status in society. Her unresolved murder has become a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by women activists in Taiwan.
The DPP's commemoration served not only to remember Peng's impactful work but also to reinforce the importance of continuing the fight for gender equality.
