The Norwegian Ministry of Defense has reached an agreement with NHIndustries, ending Oslo’s claims against the consortium over the troubled NH90 helicopters. NHIndustries will pay Norway €375 million in compensation.
Earlier in October, the Norwegian government considered legal action against NHIndustries, seeking compensation due to the delivered NH90 helicopters failing to meet requirements. Under the settlement, NHIndustries agreed to:
This settlement will allow the Norwegian government to dispose of the faulty helicopters and recover part of its investment. Although the compensation is substantially less than the initially expected €2.8 billion, it nearly equals the €500 million Oslo originally paid for 14 NH90 helicopters.
“Even if the case had proceeded to court, there was no certainty Norway would have received full compensation.”
Norway ordered 14 NH90 helicopters in 2001, meant for the Royal Norwegian Navy and Coast Guard. Deliveries were scheduled from 2005 to 2008:
However, the program faced delays, with the first helicopter delivered only in December 2011.
The settlement resolves Norway’s dispute with NHIndustries over NH90 helicopters, securing significant compensation and allowing disposal of problematic aircraft without continuing lengthy litigation.
