Goldie Hawn has shared her struggles with anxiety and depression, admitting that despite her successful acting career, she was not truly happy.
In a candid video, Hawn reflected on her yearning for a "normal life." She explained: "I wanted to go home, get married, open a dancing school, be happy, have children." Hawn revealed that this vision of happiness contrasted sharply with the path her career had taken.
She continued: "My career just went boom, boom, boom and I got an Academy Award." The Oscar she refers to was for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for *Cactus Flower* (1969), which she won at the age of 24. Despite the success, she recalled retreating to her dressing room to lie down, overwhelmed by anxiety.
"I was really freaked out about this anxiety coming over me. I literally, truly lost my smile. For someone who wanted to be happy their whole life, I wasn't very happy."
In an effort to understand what was happening with her mental health, Hawn sought professional help. "I decided to go to a psychologist," she stated. After a year of therapy, she began to regain a sense of balance. Hawn emphasized, "But, believe me, I know what it is to be depressed, I know what it is to be anxious."
Her journey serves as a reminder that even those who seem to have it all can face significant emotional struggles. Hawn's openness highlights the importance of seeking help and self-awareness in overcoming mental health challenges.
