Ignite 2025: Microsoft 365 Copilot Adds New Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Agents, and More

Microsoft 365 Copilot Updates at Ignite 2025

Microsoft has unveiled significant enhancements to Microsoft 365 Copilot and its core applications—Word, Excel, and PowerPoint—during the Ignite conference. These updates include the introduction of new AI agents and the integration of OpenAI’s Sora 2 model for video generation.

New AI Agents for Enhanced Productivity

The centerpiece of these updates is the arrival of dedicated AI agents for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. These agents will streamline document creation by handling research and formatting directly from a chat interface, allowing users to seamlessly continue editing within the respective Microsoft 365 applications.

Agent Mode: Intelligent Content Editing

A new "Agent Mode" is being rolled out, providing intelligent editing and formatting capabilities within Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Currently, Agent Mode is generally available for Word users with Microsoft 365 Copilot or Microsoft 365 Premium subscriptions. Early access is available in Excel and PowerPoint through the Frontier Program.

Copilot Chat Improvements

Even users without a paid Copilot subscription will benefit from new features in Copilot Chat. These updates aim to improve inbox management in Outlook, offering one-tap prompts for triage and surfacing urgent emails. Additionally, users can now schedule meetings directly from within chat conversations.

Outlook Enhancements

Microsoft 365 Copilot in Outlook now offers suggested prompts with a single click, helping users prioritize and manage their emails more efficiently.

Most of these features will initially be available to customers participating in Microsoft’s Frontier early access program.

Summary: Microsoft's Ignite 2025 showcased Copilot's evolution with new AI agents for key Office apps, improved chat functionality, and smarter Outlook integration, boosting productivity for a wider range of users.
