Japan Deploys Soldiers to Address Bear Attacks

Japan has started deploying soldiers to Akita prefecture in northern Japan following a surge in deadly bear attacks that have caused widespread fear among residents.

Due to the severity of the situation, local authorities requested support from Japan's Self-Defense Forces. The operation began in Kazuno town, where residents were advised to avoid dense forests and stay indoors after dark.

People were also encouraged to carry bells to potentially scare off bears attracted to residential zones in search of food.

"The townspeople feel the danger every day," Kazuno Mayor Shinji Sasamoto said after meeting the soldiers who arrived equipped with body armor and detailed maps.

"It has affected how people live their lives, forcing them to stop going out or cancel events," he added.
