Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Johannesburg, South Africa, on Friday, responding to an invitation from President Cyril Ramaphosa. The purpose of his visit is to participate in the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit.
“PM Narendra Modi has departed for Johannesburg, South Africa to attend the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit. He will also be meeting several world leaders.”
The summit is scheduled for November 22nd and 23rd in Johannesburg, the largest city and economic center of South Africa. Alongside the main summit proceedings, Prime Minister Modi is anticipated to engage in bilateral discussions with various global leaders.
This year's summit holds particular significance as it marks the first G20 Summit to be held on the African continent. During India’s 2023 G20 Presidency, the African Union officially joined the G20.
The Prime Minister’s statement highlighted the importance of the event:
“The Summit will be an opportunity to discuss key global issues.”
The theme for this year’s G20 is ‘Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability’. South Africa will build upon the achievements of previous summits held in New Delhi, India, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The summit is expected to be a platform for important global discussions, continuing the collaborative spirit fostered by the G20.
