Decade of Action — United Nations Sustainable Development

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals — our shared vision to end poverty, rescue the planet and build a peaceful world — are gaining global momentum. In 2020, an ambitious global effort was launched to deliver on the 2030 promise—mobilizing more governments, civil society, businesses, and people everywhere to make the Global Goals their own. Today, progress is being made in many places, but action to meet the Goals is not yet advancing at the speed or scale required. 2020 needs to usher in a decade of ambitious action to deliver the Goals by 2030.

The Decade of Action calls for accelerating sustainable solutions to all the world’s biggest challenges — ranging from poverty and gender to climate change, inequality and closing the finance gap.

In 2025, the UN Secretary-General called on all sectors of society to step up efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals with just five years to go. He emphasized that progress is no accident: it reflects deliberate choices and sustained investments by governments, civil society, youth movements, women’s organizations, and the private sector.

The SDGs work best when tackled together. Education strengthens gender equality, climate stability supports food security, and ending famine creates conditions for peace. Their interconnectedness means that advancing one goal helps accelerate others — and momentum is building.
