The CBS spinoff Boston Blue introduces former Dancing With the Stars champion Xochitl Gomez as Penny, a character playing opposite Donnie Wahlberg’s onscreen son, Sean, portrayed by Mika Amonsen after a recast.
The network announced on November 7 that Gomez, 19, would appear as a guest star beginning November 21. Penny is depicted as a witty, magnetic young woman with a mysterious past who unexpectedly enters Sean’s life.
Premiering in October, Boston Blue expands upon the life of Danny (Wahlberg), first seen in Blue Bloods (2010–2024). In the original series, Danny’s son Sean was played by Andrew Terraciano before being recast for this new chapter.
“Sean has relocated to Boston to start a new chapter as a Boston PD patrolman,” CBS stated. “He is honoring his family’s legacy but determined to make his own way by serving outside his hometown. Danny’s presence in Boston allows father and son to reconnect more deeply.”
“We love Andrew and the work he did over the years on Blue Bloods. It ultimately came down to telling a new chapter in both of their lives,” explained coshowrunner Brandon Margolis to Variety.
Author’s summary: CBS’s Boston Blue adds Xochitl Gomez as Penny, sparking intrigue and romance in Sean’s storyline while marking a creative shift for the Blue Bloods universe.
