Porsche Opens First Integrated R&D Hub Outside Germany in Shanghai

Porsche has inaugurated its first fully integrated overseas research and development center in Shanghai’s Hongqiao CBD, reinforcing its strategic commitment to the Chinese market with the “In China, for China” initiative. The new 10,000-square-meter facility, operational since 5 November 2025, aims to speed up innovation by combining German engineering expertise with China’s dynamic digital ecosystem.

Strategic Importance and Opening Ceremony

The inauguration ceremony gathered Porsche AG board members, Shanghai government officials, and key strategic partners, underlining the center’s crucial role in Porsche’s global innovation strategy.

“China is leading the way in future mobility, combining electrification, digitalization, and new luxury concepts,” said Dr. Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. “Solving the challenges of this transformation isn’t possible from afar – it has to happen here. The China R&D is a strategic pillar that connects German engineering with China's digital future. This center will help us move faster, learn more, and strengthen Porsche R&D globally.”

Facility Features and Integration

The new center brings together Porsche’s diverse operations—Technical Division, Porsche Engineering China, and Porsche Digital China—under one roof to enhance coordination and efficiency. Hosting over 300 engineers, the hub integrates research and development, procurement, and quality assurance functions, enabling greater autonomy and agility in operations.
