Typhoon Fung-wong has passed through the northwestern Philippines, causing severe flooding, landslides, and widespread power outages. The storm has resulted in at least six fatalities and displaced over 1.4 million people.
Fung-wong struck northeastern Aurora province on Sunday night as a super typhoon, with sustained winds reaching 185 kph (115 mph) and gusts up to 230 kph (143 mph). The 1,800-kilometer (1,100-mile)-wide storm weakened as it swept through mountainous northern provinces and farmlands overnight.
Following its impact on La Union province, the typhoon moved northwest toward Taiwan, according to state weather forecasters.
