The Clarksburg I-270 boys junior basketball team had an unexpected treat when WNBA Rookie of the Year and former UConn star Paige Bueckers stepped in to coach on Wednesday evening.
Bob Bueckers, an assistant coach for the team, was out sick. He called in his daughter Paige to cover for him. Brandon Childers, Area Director for Clarksburg I-270, said,
“When Bob Bueckers calls out sick and his daughter Paige comes to cover for the Clarksburg I-270 boys junior team.”
Paige Bueckers was in town to watch UConn’s game in Annapolis. Her younger brother Drew plays on the Clarksburg I-270 team, adding personal significance to her visit. The Bueckers family has lived in Clarksburg for about five years and actively participates in the local basketball scene.
Paige has quickly become one of the WNBA’s brightest young talents.
For the Clarksburg players, having such a celebrated basketball figure lead their drills was an unforgettable experience.
