Incline Village, a Lake Tahoe community known for its very conservative billionaires, is currently dealing with serious plumbing issues. According to a report by SFGate, the Incline Village General Improvement District (IVGID) issued a notice on November 3 alerting residents to a potential contamination event.
The notice explained that “an event that resulted in loss of pressure in the distribution system” might have introduced contaminants such as fecal matter and disease-causing organisms into the water supply. To put it plainly, wealthy residents might have bacteria in their water.
The affected residents were advised to boil their water for at least three minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, or even brushing teeth. The advisory highlighted the risk of untreated water containing parasites, viruses, and bacteria that could cause symptoms like nausea and diarrhea.
“An event that resulted in loss of pressure in the distribution system” could have allowed contaminants, including fecal matter and disease-causing organisms, into the local water supply.
This is not the first time a wealthy enclave has faced such issues. Earlier in the year, a billionaire enclave in Miami faced a similar septic crisis involving complicated politics and water contamination concerns.
Despite the alarming notice, IVGID officials emphasized the warning is purely precautionary. So far, there is no confirmed evidence that fecal contamination actually entered the drinking water system.
The advisory warns that untreated water could carry parasites, viruses, and bacteria that cause nausea, diarrhea, and a range of other symptoms.
Given these warnings, local water alternatives such as Saratoga Springs water are expected to see increased demand among residents.
Author’s summary: Incline Village’s water system faces a possible contamination event, prompting boil-water advisories as a precaution despite no confirmed fecal contamination.
