KIOTI GSOC Tahoe Notebook: Homan Extends Dominant Streak Against Canadian Teams

Rachel Homan defeated Kaitlyn Lawes 8-3 Thursday night at the KIOTI GSOC Tahoe, extending her team's winning streak to 30 consecutive games against Canadian clubs.

Impressive Winning Streak

Homan and her Ottawa-based team continue to find new ways to overcome fellow Canadian opponents. This latest victory extended their dominance to 30 straight wins against compatriot teams and an 80-2 record since the start of the 2023-24 season.

Key Moments of the Match

The match was not without challenges despite the dominant record. In the third end, Homan capitalized on a misstep by Lawes, stealing two points when Lawes’s shot was short and tight.

In the seventh end, Homan made a risky but rewarding shot to score a two-point deuce. She drove Lawes’s stone out the back, which then touched another rock outside the house, bumping a Homan stone into the rings to secure the points.

The Tahoe Blue Event Center’s location on the Nevada side allowed such daring plays to happen frequently.

“Yeah, getting two there was huge,” said Sarah Wilkes, the lead for Team Homan. “Going into that end, we kind of talked about what was ideal. Being forced was probably the least ideal out of all the situations. Definitely got a little lucky with the way we got the two, but it was a huge momentum swing for sure.”

Lawes had the hammer in the final end, trailing 6-3, and needed an extraordinary shot to stay in the game.

Author’s summary: Rachel Homan's team continues its remarkable winning streak against Canadian rivals, combining strategic plays and timely risks to maintain dominance in the 2023-24 season.
