ICYMI: On MSNBC: Rosen Criticizes President Trump on Health Care and Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen appeared on MSNBC’s “Deadline: White House” with Nicolle Wallace to criticize President Donald Trump for his inaction in protecting Americans' access to affordable health care and for the ongoing Republican-led government shutdown.

Affordable Care Act and Premium Tax Credits

Senator Rosen emphasized the urgent need to extend the enhanced premium tax credits under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to keep health care affordable for families. She highlighted a recent analysis by the non-partisan Kaiser Family Foundation, which found that premiums for hardworking families could more than double if the ACA tax credits are not renewed this year.

In Nevada, nearly 95,000 residents directly benefit from these tax credits.

Senator Rosen's Statement

“Donald Trump is in charge of the White House. He’s actually Speaker of the House these days, as he alleges himself, and he’s pretty much in control of the Senate. He could stop this shutdown right now by calling a group of Democrats and Republicans together to work on preserving the accessibility and affordability of health care for tens of millions of Americans who are about to fall off a cliff at the end of this year. Whether you get your health care on the exchanges or through your employer, everybody’s healthcare is going up.”

Call for Bipartisan Action

Senator Rosen called on the President to convene bipartisan negotiations to end the government shutdown and protect affordable health care, warning of the negative impact on millions of Americans if no action is taken soon.

Summary: Senator Rosen strongly urged President Trump to halt the government shutdown and extend ACA premium tax credits to preserve affordable health care for millions facing steep cost increases.
