Avelo Airlines, recently criticized for ending all flights from Bradley International Airport, is marking four years of service at Tweed-New Haven Airport with new travel offers. Since starting operations in Connecticut, the airline has transported over 3.8 million passengers.
The budget carrier, which currently operates 28 nonstop routes from Tweed, announced a new promotion offering 20% off base fares. Additional exclusive savings are available for Avelo PLUS members.
Late last month, the Connecticut Airport Authority expressed strong disappointment and surprise at Avelo’s decision to withdraw from Bradley International Airport. They specifically lamented the cancellation of the state’s only nonstop flight to Montego Bay, Jamaica.
“We were especially disappointed and surprised about the decision to cancel the state’s only nonstop service to Montego Bay, Jamaica.” – Connecticut Airport Authority
A spokesperson for Avelo defended the move, stating the decision was based on financial facts. They emphasized that the revenues generated at Bradley did not cover operational costs and denied any misleading reasons for the exit.
“Like all business decisions we make, this exit was made based on facts – the revenues on the market did not cover the costs. Any other insinuation to the contrary is unfortunate, false and uninformed. We remain committed to serving the state of Connecticut through our low fares out of New Haven Tweed airport.” – Avelo Airlines spokeswoman
