Kazakhstan to Join Abraham Accords

The Government of Kazakhstan declared its intention to join the Abraham Accords on Thursday, ahead of a planned meeting between President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington D.C.

Announcement and Significance

President Trump confirmed Kazakhstan's decision in a post on Truth Social, calling it “a major step forward in building bridges across the world.” He mentioned that a formal signing ceremony will soon be held to finalize the accession.

New Membership and Diplomatic Impact

By joining, Kazakhstan will align with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan, Israel, and the United States within the Abraham Accords framework. This marks Kazakhstan as the first Central Asian country, and the only non–Middle Eastern or North African member besides the U.S., to participate in the initiative.

Geopolitical Expansion

This expansion extends the Abraham Accords into Central Asia, emphasizing their increasing importance beyond their initial regional and political boundaries.

Kazakhstan’s accession "represents a powerful statement from a Muslim-majority nation in favor of peaceful normalization with Israel."
