Star Wars Visions Review: “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope”

After the original “The Ninth Jedi” short left a strong impression, the announcement of a full series in 2026 was exciting news. Meanwhile, Production IG returns with “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope,” directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani, as part of Star Wars: Visions Vol. 3. This follow-up expands the original story's world and hints at the direction the upcoming series might take.

Though enjoyable, “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope” feels more like a transition episode bridging the original short and the upcoming limited series Star Wars: Visions Presents: The Ninth Jedi. It departs somewhat from the typical Visions style, leaving a sense that it might have been better as the series’ opening episode.

The earlier episode “The Duel: Payback” introduced a self-contained sequel approach within Volume 3, and it set the pattern for how sequels might continue. “Child of Hope” builds on this while offering new layers to the narrative.

“I really did like ‘The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope,’ but given how it’s more a halfway point to get us from a self-contained short to what might come in the limited series, I’d rather this had been an opening episode for the series itself.”

This installment effectively whets the appetite for the full series while enriching the story world that began with the original short.

Author’s summary: “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope” skillfully bridges the original short and the upcoming series, expanding the story but leaving a desire for a more cohesive start to the saga.
