The episode begins with a New York City mayoral debate sketch featuring Miles Teller as Andrew Cuomo, Ramy Youssef as Zohran Mamdami, and Shane Gillis as Curtis Sliwa. It turns out to be the funniest cold open of the season and possibly Gillis’s best performance on the show.
“I have good brain. I took a cognitive test and I did so well that they immediately gave me an MRI.”
Even James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump makes an appearance, delivering perhaps his best line of the night. The sketch scores a solid 7 out of 10.
Teller delivers a decent and energetic monologue. After losing his home in the Pallisades fire, he seems more grounded. Interestingly, he has a new movie titled Eternity releasing later this month but makes no mention of it. Score: 5 out of 10.
The first main sketch is a game show concept where hungover contestants try to recall the events of the previous evening. It’s a straightforward premise that lacks the twist or clever payoff the writers seem to be missing this season. Score: 5 out of 10.
Teller portrays both Property Brothers who are brought in to assist with a White House renovation. The concept feels oddly personal and lands more on the somber side rather than comedic. Score: 6 out of 10.
This segment unexpectedly delivers more laughs than expected, offering a fun close to a mixed bag of sketches.
The episode finds its strongest moments in Shane Gillis’s performance and a surprisingly sharp cold open, though much of the rest feels passable rather than inspired.
