On Friday night at the Kia Center, the Boston Celtics faced the Orlando Magic aiming to remain unbeaten in the 2025 NBA Cup group play. Despite efforts from Jaylen Brown and Anfernee Simons in the second half, the Magic prevailed with a 123-110 victory.
The Magic jumped out to a 16-point lead early in the first quarter thanks to an explosive start, shooting 49% from the field and 50% (9-for-18) from beyond the arc by halftime. Boston fought back in the third quarter, fueled by Brown and improved defense.
Derrick White gave the Celtics their first lead since early in the first quarter with a basket in the fourth. However, Orlando responded strongly, finishing the game on a decisive 28-14 run over the last six minutes.
"Orlando's rally in crunch time secured a well-earned 123-110 win, marking Boston's first setback in the NBA Cup group stage."
The Celtics now hold a 1-1 record in this mid-season tournament with upcoming games against the Detroit Pistons and Brooklyn Nets later in November.
The Celtics' strong second-half efforts fell short as the Magic's hot start and late-game surge led to a clear 123-110 win in the NBA Cup group stage.
