Photos of the Ka-Bar knife sheath, a key piece of evidence, have been disclosed for the first time among more than 2,300 pages released by Idaho State Police.
The brown leather Ka-Bar knife sheath was left at the crime scene shortly after Bryan Kohberger fatally stabbed four University of Idaho students—Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin—on November 13, 2022.
This sheath played a pivotal role in identifying Kohberger, as forensic genetic genealogy matched DNA found on it at 1122 King Road in Moscow, Idaho, to the 30-year-old criminology PhD student.
The sheath, measuring less than 15 inches long, bears a USMC military seal. Kohberger had purchased the sheath and a Ka-Bar knife, suspected to be the murder weapon, from Amazon in March 2022—months before the killings and prior to relocating from Pennsylvania to Washington state.
To date, the knife itself has not been recovered.
"Photos have been revealed for the first time of the key piece of evidence that led to Bryan Kohberger being unmasked as the murderer."
Author’s summary: Newly released photos of the Ka-Bar knife sheath provide vital insights into the forensic evidence that directly linked Bryan Kohberger to the murders of four students in Idaho.
