Lucy Liu has entered her lob era with a new hairstyle revealed in the upcoming drama Rosemead. The Charlie's Angels star appeared in the film’s trailer sporting a short, side-parted haircut that falls just above her collarbone.
Rosemead premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and is set for theatrical release on December 5. The story follows Irene (played by Liu) and her son Joe (Lawrence Shou) as they navigate the emotional aftermath of Joe’s schizophrenia diagnosis.
The drama is adapted from a 2017 Los Angeles Times article by Frank Shyong titled “A dying mother's plan: Buy a gun. Kill her son.”
The role in Rosemead marks a notable shift for Liu, who is known for her lighter, action-driven roles in projects like Ally McBeal, Watching the Detectives, and Why Women Kill.
“As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together,” Liu told Variety. “In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be filled in to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son.”
At the Tribeca premiere, Liu also discussed with Parade her ongoing interest in emotionally layered and socially relevant storytelling projects.
