Senior Liberal Senator Sarah Henderson has voiced serious concerns about Sussan Ley's leadership as tensions grow within the Coalition over the party’s stance on net zero emissions.
Henderson questioned Ley's ability to lead the Liberal Party amid growing internal pressure to clarify its position on the net zero policy. The Nationals have already dropped their commitment, further fueling the debate.
The Liberal partyroom is scheduled to meet next week to determine its final position, with a decision expected on Sunday, November 16.
“I cannot support the way things are,” Henderson said ahead of the partyroom meeting.
Speaking to Sky News Australia host Peter Stefanovic, Henderson declared she could no longer back the current direction under Ley’s leadership.
“I can't pretend things are good. We've had a dire Newspoll result, a primary vote of just 24 per cent. Things are not traveling well,” she said.
“I do think Sussan is losing support, but I believe in miracles — we can still turn things around,” Henderson added.
Her remarks underscore the growing unease in party ranks as the Coalition faces pressure to redefine its climate policies.
