During the World Series, the Toronto Blue Jays have joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in paying tribute to Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia, who is away from the team due to a "deeply personal family matter."
Before Game 1, the Dodgers announced Vesia's absence on social media. In support, Dodgers pitchers have been playing with Vesia’s jersey number as a sign of solidarity.
Following the Dodgers’ example, Blue Jays relievers Chris Bassitt, Seranthony Domínguez, Mason Fluharty, and Louis Varland have also worn Vesia's number during the World Series.
The Dodgers said in a statement:
"Vesia is away from the team because of a deeply personal family matter."
