Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia is grieving the loss of his infant daughter, Sterling Sol, who passed away shortly after the team announced he would not take part in the World Series.
“Our little angel we love you forever & you’re with us always,” Alex and his wife, Kayla, wrote in a joint Instagram post. “Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
The Dodgers revealed that Vesia would not be on the World Series roster against the Toronto Blue Jays, attributing it to a “deeply personal family matter.” To honor Vesia, both teams paid tribute by wearing the 29-year-old pitcher’s jersey number during the games.
The Vesias expressed their gratitude to both the Dodgers and Blue Jays organizations for their support throughout this difficult time.
“Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them,” they said. “Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen ALL your messages, comments and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.”
The family also thanked the hospital personnel who assisted them during their hardship, describing the staff as “truly so incredible.”
