Action Against Hunger reports that more than 21 million people in Sudan face critical food insecurity, with at least 375,000 in catastrophic conditions involving extreme hunger, acute malnutrition, and risk of death.
About 98% of those in emergency or disaster situations are in Darfur and Kordofan regions, where ongoing armed conflict, mass displacement, and restricted humanitarian access have caused the collapse of food and health systems.
“Sudan is experiencing a silent famine that threatens to become a total catastrophe. El Fasher and Kadugli are under siege, with no access to food, water or medical care. Families are eating boiled leaves, peanut shells and animal feed. This situation is intolerable.”
“The international community cannot look the other way. We need an immediate ceasefire, unrestricted humanitarian access and urgent mobilisation of funds to save lives. Every day that passes without action is a death sentence for thousands of people.”
— Samy Guessabi, Director of Action Against Hunger in Sudan
The ongoing crisis in Sudan has led to widespread famine and displacement, urgently demanding ceasefire and unrestricted aid to prevent further loss of life.
