The city of DeSoto has introduced the Helping Hands of DeSoto: Community Relief Initiative to help residents access essential food resources and community aid. This temporary program responds to growing concerns about food insecurity and recent SNAP benefit changes.
DeSoto is partnering with local nonprofits, churches, and regional organizations to provide families with access to meals, pantry programs, and holiday food distributions during the season.
The initiative includes pausing water utility disconnections for eligible residents affected by the shutdown and waiving late fees caused by non-payment during this period.
“Our community has always come together in times of need,” said DeSoto Mayor Rachel L. “Helping Hands is about making sure our residents know where to turn for help — and that DeSoto stands ready to support them.”
Residents can find a full list of local food resources, community pantries, and seasonal food distributions on the city's website.
