A new national survey by Emerson College Polling shows that 41% of voters approve of how President Donald Trump is handling his duties, while 49% disapprove. This marks a four-point decline in approval from October, when 45% approved and 48% disapproved.
“Nearly one year after he was elected, President Trump’s approval has flipped since the first Emerson College poll of the new administration,” said Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling.
According to Kimball, since President Trump’s inauguration, his support among several voter groups has shifted notably. Approval among Republican voters dropped from 91% to 79%. Disapproval increased among independents from 44% to 51%, and among Hispanic voters from 39% to 54%.
On the 2026 congressional ballot, Democratic candidates lead Republicans by four points, 44% to 40%, while 16% of respondents remain undecided.
Overall, 57% of voters say they feel more motivated to vote than they did during last year’s midterm elections. Meanwhile, 12% are less motivated, and 31% report similar levels of motivation as before.
“Democrats report being most motivated to vote in the 2026 Midterm Elections, at 71%, compared to 60% of Republicans and 42% of independents,” Kimball noted.
President Trump’s approval rating fell to 41%, while Democrats show strong enthusiasm heading into the 2026 midterms, giving them a slight advantage nationally.
