Antonio Brown, former Central Michigan University and NFL star, was arrested in Dubai and transported to Newark, New Jersey, where he currently awaits extradition to Miami.
The attempted murder charge relates to an incident on May 16 after a celebrity boxing event in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood, where shots were fired. Brown was briefly detained by police following the event.
“I had been jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me,” Brown said on social media at the time. “Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED.”
In June, an arrest warrant was issued accusing Brown of grabbing a handgun from a security staffer and firing two shots at a man he had previously been in a fistfight with. The victim said one bullet grazed his neck.
Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales confirmed that Brown is in custody in Newark, where Miami PD met him. Brown will soon be extradited to Miami to face charges related to the shooting.
“Let this serve as a clear message; no matter who you are or where you run, we will pursue the facts, identify you, locate you, and bring you to justice,” Chief Morales said.
Antonio Brown's arrest highlights law enforcement's commitment to pursuing justice regardless of a suspect's prominence or location.
