I'd not used my PlayStation Portal in a year, but now Sony's new update has arrived I can't put it down

The PlayStation Portal Update Revives the Handheld

When I reviewed the PlayStation Portal two years ago, I praised its potential and noted,

"If it had access to cloud gaming too, it'd be better still."
Now, that promise has been fulfilled, and the device feels reinvented.

Expanded Cloud Gaming Support

Last year, Sony introduced cloud gaming on the Portal in beta, limited to a small selection of titles. Today, after the largest update since launch, you can play hundreds of games without needing to connect to a PS5 or PS5 Pro. From my experience, gameplay has been mostly smooth and lag-free.

Huge Library Access

Sony has vastly expanded its cloud gaming library, now supporting over a thousand titles. This means you can stream a wide range of purchased games through a new “Your Library” section. Selecting a game launches it for play after loading.

Broad Game Availability

As a games and tech writer with a sizable collection of PS5 and classic games, I found it hard to locate missing titles in the library. More than 100 of my owned games appeared immediately after updating the Portal, including many I hadn’t accessed in years.

"More than a thousand titles are now supported, so you should see an almost complete library of available games in a new 'Your Library' section."

In summary, this update breathes fresh life into the PlayStation Portal by unlocking extensive cloud gaming capabilities and delivering an impressive, mostly lag-free experience.
