Antonio Brown, former NFL star, was arrested on an attempted murder charge connected to a shooting after a celebrity boxing event in Miami, authorities confirmed Thursday.
Brown, 37, was detained by U.S. Marshals in Dubai and flown to Essex County, New Jersey, where he is held pending extradition to Miami. The reasons for his initial transfer to New Jersey remain unclear. Brown has been active on social media from Dubai in recent months.
Brown briefly played for the New England Patriots in 2019, appearing in just one game. His short stay ended amid multiple allegations including rape, sexual assault, and harassment. The Patriots faced widespread criticism for signing him.
According to an arrest warrant for the May 16 shooting, Brown allegedly grabbed a handgun from security staff after the boxing match and shot twice at a man he had previously fought with.
Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, the victim, told investigators, "one of the bullets grazed my neck."
There is no public information about whether Brown has retained an attorney or when he might be returned to Miami.
