Port-au-Prince, Haiti, October 31, 2025 (PAHO/WHO)—The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) is assisting the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) in responding to severe flooding caused by heavy rains linked to Hurricane Melissa. The floods have led to loss of life and significant damage across several regions in Haiti.
PAHO/WHO teams are working alongside MSPP in affected areas to ensure continued access to essential health services and to prevent outbreaks of disease. Field teams are actively visiting shelters and health facilities to evaluate health needs and strengthen the local response capacity.
At the request of the Minister of Health, Dr. Bertrand Sinal, nearly two tons of medical supplies have been delivered to the Health Directorate of the Ouest department.
This assistance, supported by the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) and the Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA), aims to reinforce the critical care capacity of health facilities in the hardest-hit areas.
PAHO/WHO collaborates closely with Haiti’s health ministry to mitigate the impact of Hurricane Melissa’s flooding by providing vital medical supplies and ongoing support to affected communities.
