Russia claims that its two-seat Su-57 jet is set to feature onboard combat AI. Russia named this new twin-seat model the Su-57D. Military leaders designed the aircraft to compete with Western fifth-generation fighters. However, the Russian fleet of Su-57 jets remains small.

In contrast, a small European country currently flies twice as many fifth-generation fighters as Russia. The difference in fleet size persists despite Russian efforts to install combat AI capabilities to the Su-57D. Simple Flying and MiGFlug detailed the modest fleet numbers alongside the planned artificial intelligence features.
